Four Words for a Room With People In It

Tonight, when you eat with someone, put your phone in another room first. Not on the table face down. Another room.

In Japan there are four words for what makes time together good: harmony, respect, clean, quiet. They were written for a tea room, hundreds of years ago, where people sat down for an hour and made each other tea. Not one of the four is about being interesting.

That is the whole trick. Nobody has to perform. Someone just has to be there.

Who is easy to be quiet with?

The people who feel like home are usually the ones you are not trying to impress.
