Spring Does Not Rank

Look out of any window and find two plants that are not the same size. Look at the small one for as long as it takes to breathe out three times.

Nine hundred years ago a teacher wrote one line: spring has no high and low, and the branches are short and long of themselves.

Spring does not give more to the tall branch and less to the small one. It falls on everything at once. The difference between the branches is not a ranking, and nothing decided it. That is just how each one grew.

Who did you measure yourself against today?

The same light fell on all of it. The rest is only how you grew.
